BR Ambedkar: News
Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar, fondly called "Babasaheb," was an eminent jurist, politician, economist, social reformer, author of several books, a profound scholar, and political thinker. He was a member of the Constituent Assembly of India and Chairman of the Constitution Drafting Committee. He also served as independent India's first Law Minister. Born on April 14, 1891, Ambedkar grew up battling the social evil of untouchability, an experience that turned him into a crusader for social justice leading the Dalits' Rights movement in pre- and post-independent India. Ambedkar was highly educated, obtaining Degrees and Majors in multiple subjects like Law, Economics, and Political Science from universities in India and abroad. He secured a number of Doctorates, including one in Economics from the London School of Economics. In the latter half of his life, Ambedkar donned the hat of a politician, beginning from the 1930s, and later played a key role in free India's national polity until his death in 1956. In 1990, he was awarded India's highest civilian honor, the Bharat Ratna, posthumously.
